Publishing With Hard Ball & Little Heroes Press
If we accept your work for publication, you will be offered a contract that specifies what licensing rights you are granting to Hard Ball Press and what rights you retain. We do not pay an advance. Once the book is released, you will receive royalties for book sales on a quarterly basis, whenever your sales exceed 20 copies.
Books that find a readership are ones in which the author collaborates with the editor in marketing the book. You must have a robust marketing plan before submitting your MS, and you must work hard for at least the first year of publication if your book is to find readers.

“Thanks to Timothy Sheard of Hardball Press for giving me the opportunity to publish this novel [Murder of a Post Office Manager] and for helping me every step of the way.”

HOW TO SUBMIT YOUR WORK
Hard Ball & Little Heroes Press publishes fiction, nonfiction historical narratives and manuals for labor organizing. If you have a manuscript to submit, send a short query letter to: hardballpress@gmail.com. In the subject line write “Manuscript Submission.”
In the body of the letter write a short summary of the work, your work experience and any previous publishing credits, and your marketing plan.
Send the first 20 pages of the work as an attached PDF document. Give us 2-3 weeks to review the work. We will send you our evaluation of the work and let you know if we wish to read the entire manuscript.
If we offer you a book contract, you will find that we work hard at promoting your work. We will send out review copies to editors and trade union activists, we will request reading and speaking opportunities and radio interviews for you, and we will ask you to attend labor conferences where we will be selling your book.
HBP authors receive a royalty based on 1/4 (25%) of the publisher's compensation (profit) for print books, and 50% royalty for E-book sales.. The compensation amount varies widely among the various supply chains. You will receive an estimate of your compensation rates once we have a sense of the book's page count and interior type (black & white vs. color) and we settle on the list price.
The author will be able to purchase copies of the book at a 40% discount off the list price, plus shipping & handling.
Thank you for considering Hard Ball & Little Heroes Press.
